WHAT IS 'YOUR ESSENCE'?

Your essence is the part of you that is not your Ego. It is the core of your being, and it will always be pure and indestructible. It's in our nature to discover your true self and become an evolved person.
Please read on when you want to know more about this fascinating topic that is of importance to experiencing inner balance and happiness. Yes, that's right... true happiness is not found by the Ego.
Nowadays, more and more people are interested in personal development, not only to understand more about life but also to evolve into an 'improved' human being.
We all struggle with our needs, feelings, thoughts and self-worth. We all try to find a little more happiness, love and security. The way to achieve that is by becoming more self-aware and finding your essence!
Some people will say: I am a human being searching for spiritual knowledge.
However, we can use another perspective on this. Let's assume that "we are spiritual beings having a human experience". This so called ‘spiritual being’ is our true essence, and our ‘human experience’ is created by our personality – based on the beliefs and identities that we have acquired throughout the course of our lives.
This Ego personality has been shaped by your environment and by the ways that you have adapted to events and coped with situations. Your Ego and your Essence are both part of your wholeness, but the Ego can become so dominant and complex that the 'light' of your true Essence becomes hidden.
Therefore the whispering of your true Essence (intuition) will be hardly noticeable. Let's call your Essence the Authentic personality, rediscovered through self-awareness, has own values, more clarity, empowerment, worthiness, self-trust and true compassion. The Ego personality is all there is when you are disconnected from your authentic and genuine self.
Many people are reaching the point where they become vaguely aware of this disconnection and they start to ask deeper questions like: Why am I here? Who am I? Why do I feel so much resistance to life? How to feel good enough? The answers to these questions will emerge when they start to remember their true nature, and the first step is to become conscious aware of the separation between their ego-personality and the authentic personality (their essence).
We all need a personality to exist in this society and to have direction in life so we can be meaningful. The choice is yours of course, do you want to exist as an Ego-personality or as an Authentic personality?

Ego personality

Ego-identity, my mind

I'm identified with my life story. I have an ego identity and rely on my knowledge, beliefs, opinions and assumptions. My mind is everything for me and it's always thinking about challenges in life and possible solutions. My ego is keeping me safe, but is also always comparing and judgmental. My mind doesn't understand feelings very well and is expressing or suppressing them.

My mind can be focussed on the negative in life, but when my heart is open I can feel quite happy and connected. My shadow is not a good friend of my Ego.

WHAT IS TRUE AUTHENTICITY

In the last months, the topic of authenticity has been coming up during some therapy and coaching sessions. It seams that everyone has a different image of being authentic. So, let's try to be more clear about it. What actually constitutes a truly authentic person?

I believe that becoming authentic is a lifetime process of spiritual growth. It's like peeling an onion and over time as we grow, heal, and love ourselves more and more, we become more of who we truly are. The mental structures are degraded to reveal the true self.

There can be moments when we are truly expressing our authentic selves with an open heart and then there are moments that trigger our inner wounds. We then find ourselves acting in a way that's out of alignment with our own inner truth and, instead, acting as a reaction to our wounds being reactivated.

So as I said before, it's a lifelong process, but becoming more authentic is your best option to find true love, happiness, meaningful relationships, compassion and a sense of fulfilment.

BENEFITS OF BEING YOUR TRUE ESSENCE

People tend to think they are very consciously aware of themselves and know exactly who they are. But in reality, they are not very aware of their own ego-patterns, subconscious reactions, emotional blockages and limiting beliefs. When people experience inner struggles or strong fear-based thoughts and feelings, they might experience being them. True self-awareness offers a solution to deal with them and to become more genuine and feel more peaceful.

Our sense of happiness is part of our sense of well-being. This means that we have to take a look at how we experience life and how we behave on a daily basis. Most people live their lives according to what they have learned during their lives. They might think that they are defined by their life story. They might believe that thoughts and feelings are a big part of their identity.

 Passionate About Inspiring Others

Hi there,

I am Henk van der Ven, a licensed Holistic therapist and Transformational coach since 2010. I studied in The Netherlands and immigrated to New Zealand in 2017.

I believe that a better understanding of our mind, soul, feelings and past conditioning is truly essential to become a more conscious, happy and genuine human being.

My mission is to help people to 'travel light' through life by gaining important insights about self-empowerment, self-acceptance, self-trust and self-love.

It all starts with introducing self-awareness of the ego, understanding resistance and of course self-inquiry.

Dealing with their past is for most people a challenge and that's why I like to approach this in a different way.

What to let go, and what to question about old limiting beliefs and stories?

How to change your perspective on any situation?

How to witness your feelings and thoughts from a distance?

It's all about knowing where you are now and learn how your transformation can take place as a natural process in life.

My favourite spiritual teachers are Eckhart Tolle, Michael Singer, dr. Joe Dispenza, Jeff Foster, dr. Bruce Lipton and Allan Watts.
